How Peckham Rovers collect every sub before full-time.

Danny runs a Sunday side of 22 players. We spent a matchday with him to see how the payment links go out.

Matchday at Rovers

Danny has managed Peckham Rovers for six seasons. Before this one, Sunday evenings meant working out who had played, adding up who owed what and sending the same reminder to the same five people.

This season he runs the whole thing from his phone. We followed him from the Thursday availability poll through to the final whistle.

When Danny confirms who played, every player gets a WhatsApp message with a personal link to their portal. It opens straight on the fee, and they can pay by Apple Pay, Google Pay or card.

“I used to send five reminder texts a week. Now the payment links go out the second I tap who played — and the money’s in before I’m off the pitch.”

Anyone who hasn’t paid by Monday gets one automatic reminder. Danny doesn’t have to chase anyone himself.

What changed

  • Subs are collected on the day instead of across the following week.
  • No more cash to count or carry home after the game.
  • The group chat is back to being about football.
